Who is Norm Hummell?
Norm is a respected and much loved volunteer who continues to actively serve on the District Committee and as a Commissioner. He started his Scouting volunteer career in 1973 as a Pack Committee leader with Pack 1 and later as a Webelos leader. He crossed over into Troop 535 with his son and served as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster. He later served as Scoutmaster and then Committee Chair of Troop 48.
He received the District Award of Merit in 2003 and completed Wood Badge training in 2004. In 2012, the Capitol Area Council honored him with the highly prestigious Silver Beaver Award for exceptional service to our Council.
Norm is an active member of the Council’s Shooting Sports Committee, District and Council Camping Committees, and often serves as a Summer Camp Commissioner at Lost Pines Scout Reservation in Bastrop. He is a reliable Friends of Scouting (FOS) volunteer. You may have gotten a call from him during one of our FOS campaigns.
Most importantly, Norm exemplifies the Scout Oath and Law in all that he does. He has been and continues to be a great mentor to both Scouts and adult volunteers. His positive impact on Scouting is immeasurable and still growing every day. Thanks, Norm, for setting a great example for our Scouts and leaders!
